RESUMEN CORTO - SHORT SUMMARY

Here we describe a case of necrosis and lysis in the radial carpal bone in a skeletally immature dog possibly as a result of trauma with similarities to Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease. We also suggest that there are similarities to a rare human condition involving ischaemic necrosis of the scaphoid bone called Preiser’s disease. Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the radial carpal bone of an adult dog has only been described once in the veterinary literature Given the evident rarity of AVN of the radial carpal bone in dogs, little is known about the aetiology, diagnosis and treatment outcomes in these animals.

We  present the radiographic, computer tomographical and histopathological  findings of a case of avascular necrosis of the radial carpal bone in a juvenile dog. It was treated successfully with a pancarpal arthrodesis. This case serves to highlight that the condition can occur in skeletally immature individuals and provides further support for a possible traumatic or vascular causal aetiology.
