RESUMEN CORTO - SHORT SUMMARY

A 2-year-old Cane Corso was presented with acute weakness, vomiting and diarrhea for a few hours. Abdominal radiographs showed a large soft tissue mass effect and several foreign bodies within the lumen of the gastric body. Abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomographyrevealed a gastro-gastric intussusception involving the gastric body only with small concurrent gastric foreign body. The dog responded to medical stabilization. Exploratory laparotomy confirmed gastro-gastric intussusception, which was manually reduced. A right- and left-sided incisional gastropexy was performed to avoid recurrence. The dog fully recovered and was discharged 3 days after surgery. The dog showed no recurrence of gastrointestinal signs during the one-year follow-up period after surgery. Intussusception involving the stomach is a rare condition with very few cases of duodeno-gastric, pyloro-gastric and oesophagogastric intussusception reported. To the authors knowledge, gastrogastric intussusception involving the gastric body only has not yet been described in dog. The gastric foreign bodies were considered as a possible risk factor for this pathology, as described for other intussusceptions before.

This report describes the clinical presentation, diagnostic imaging findings, treatment and outcome of an intussusception of the pyloric antrum into the lumen of the gastric body with concurrent gastric foreign bodies in a dog.
