RESUMEN CORTO - SHORT SUMMARY

A 6-year old male entire Chihuahua was presented with a 24 hours history of vomiting and diarrhoea. Physical examination only revealed mild abdominal discomfort. Biochemistry revealed bilirubin within normal limits. However, exploratory laparotomy confirmed a gallbladder rupture and fragments of extruded gallbladder mucocele free in the abdominal cavity.

This case widens veterinary literature on anicteric gallbladder rupture in dogs and underlines the limitations of bilirubin concentration and abdominal ultrasound as diagnostic tool for rupture of this organ. Gallbladder rupture should not be excluded even when blood samples show normal plasmatic bilirubin concentrations.
