Renal disease in dogs and cats cause different implications for anaesthesia due to the pathophysiology of each disease. Anaesthetic considerations for both species with chronic renal disease will be reviewed, as well as the most recommended anaesthetic protocols for each case. The global management of the patient, including appropriate pre-anaesthetic evaluation and stabilization according to the disease, the different treatment options and pre-operative monitoring in order to reduce the incidence and impact of potential complications will be highlighted.
