Blood gas analysis is a valuable diagnostic and therapeutic tool in emergency and critical care medicine. This presentation will review the basics of blood gas sample collection, pre-analysis management and review parameters associated with a blood gas report. Interpretation of measured values will also be reviewed with an emphasis on the four classes of blood gas abnormalities detected in emergency and critical care patients.
