The choice of resins used in a restoration should be made considering properties such as resistance, surface smoothness, polymerization shrinkage, the degree of microleakage, hygroscopic expansion, and color stability. The study aimed to evaluate the influence of bacterial plaque(BP) on the performance of hybrid resins used for dental restoration over a two-year follow-up period.The study used a sample of 18 dogs to evaluate the influence of BP on the performance of hybrid resins used for dental restoration over a two-year follow-up period. Capturing data was made at four different time-points: T1(immediately after the dental restoration); T2(6 months post-restoration); T3(12 months post-restoration) and T4(24 months post-restoration). The most significant change to the level of BP throughout the study period happened from T2–T3, where the majority of the patients presented a high level of BP, affecting the medium to long-term survival of restorations.We only used two resin colors. In young patients, restoration appearance could be more discordant with regard to adjacent teeth, since younger teeth present a more translucent incisal edge. The early polishing of restauration have contributed to an increase in the number of irregularities on it surface, since the final complete polymerization of the resins was not achieved at that time. Restoration loss (partial or total) was registered only in patients who exhibited plaque and irregularities in the restoration surface in an earlier stage. Although most teeth are polychromatic, the use of only two resin colors was sufficient to achieve very good aesthetic coronary restoration results.
