Sepsis describes the pathophysiology of a life-threatening disease process but it is the subsequent organ failure that causes patient morbidity and mortality. A key aspect of management of the septic patient is intensive monitoring to detect organ dysfunction early, with the hope that interventions will reduce the severity of disease. This presentation will discuss the author’s approach to monitoring the septic patient, including practical patient care suggestions and case-based examples.
