Musculotendinous pathology is a common cause of lameness in athletic dogs. These injuries may result from acute traumatic events to chronic insidious tendinopathy where repetitive micro injury outweighs the ability of the tendon to undergo repair. Any part of the musculotendinous unit including the insertion points may be affected making these injuries sometimes challenging to diagnose. This lecture will focus on tendon injuries in active dogs with guidance on specific physical exam findings and diagnostic imaging tests to develop a definitive diagnosis. Surgical treatments will be covered along with nonsurgical therapies including coaptation, shockwave, and biologics.
