This lecture will review the identification of dogs with protein losing nephropathy (PLN) and will then more specifically consider important aspects of management in these dogs. In particular nutritional management and the evidence base for changing diet and dietary supplements will be considered, focusing on dietary protein and omega 3 fatty acids and how to decide on the best feeding plan. From a medical perspective the lecture will consider the role of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone inhibition together with medical management for some of the complications that can be identified in dogs with PLN such as systemic hypertension and thrombotic disease.
