Brachycephalic airway syndrome is characterized by several anatomic abnormalities predisposing them to a variety of perioperative challenges. Alarmingly, brachycephalic dogs are four times more likely to develop postanesthetic complications when compared to nonbrachycephalic patients. This lecture discusses patient risk factors, common peri-anesthetic complications, and anesthetic management techniques specific to brachycephalic patients. The primary objective is to provide veterinarians the appropriate tools necessary to feel confident when providing anesthesia and analgesia for these types of patients.
