Chronic bronchitis is the most common cause of cough in older dogs. Dogs with CB are otherwise healthy and active. The diagnosis may be suspected by typical changes on chest radiographs, although the most important criteria for this diagnosis includes daily productive cough for which other causes of cough (CHF, tracheal collapse etc) have been excluded. Dogs left untreated may develop bronchomalacia with airway collapse, and this is a non-reversible condition. This lecture will describe the history, signalment physical findings and radiographic appearance of CB in dogs. Treatment including use of inhaled corticosteroids will be emphasized.
