Disorders of the urinary tract are commonly presented in exotic companion mammals, particularly in rabbits and herbivore rodents. Clinical signs of affected animals can be nonspecific (e.g anorexia, weight loss, lethargy) or more consistent with upper or lower urinary tract disease (hematuria, dysuria, stranguria, pollakiuria, creamy urine, inappropriate elimination behavior, incontinence, and urine scalding). A full diagnostic workup should include history, clinical examination, clinical pathology tests (e.g. complete blood count, biochemical profile, urinalysis), imaging techniques (direct and contrast radiography and ultrasonography, CT-scan, etc.) or endoscopy (e.g. urethroscopy, cystoscopy and laparoscopy). Several medical treatments are currently available to treat such conditions and include medical (fluid therapy, antibiotics, antinflammatories) and/or surgical options (Nephrotomy, pyelolithotomy, nephrectomy, uretronephrectomy, ureterotomy, cystotomy, cystectomy, urethrotomy, urinary bladder herniorrhaphy).
