Sebastiaan (Bas) van Nimwegen graduated in veterinary medicine at Utrecht University in the Netherlands in 2006, performed an Honors Program (MSc; 2004) and finished his PhD on laser and minimally invasive surgery in dogs and cats in 2008. Bas performed a clinical internship and surgical residency training at Utrecht University from 2006 to 2011 and became diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2013. He currently works as assistant professor of companion animal surgery at the department of Clinical Sciences of the Faculty of veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University. Bas leads the oncologic surgery section which is implemented in the Utrecht University Animal Cancer Centre, providing a multidisciplinary approach and state of the art multimodal treatment options for companion animals with cancer. Bas is involved in several clinical research projects on minimally invasive and high-tech oncologic surgery and contributed to several international veterinary surgery textbooks. His main research focus involves a multidisciplinary inter-institutional project to develop a minimally invasive image-guided treatment of inoperable tumors with radioactive 166-holmium microspheres in companion animals as translational model for humans, including head & neck and brain tumors. http://www.uu.nl/medewerkers/SAvanNimwegen/
