Transfusion therapy has been commonly practiced in canine medicine. While far more challenging, transfusions are becoming an integral part in the support of anemic and bleeding cats. There are major differences between transfusing cats versus dogs because of naturally occurring feline alloantibodies and their small size. There are recent studies on blood typing and crossmatching and guidelines published on how to practice effective and safe transfusion therapy. The recent advances and practical tips will be presented including case examples.
