Locoregional anaesthesia has undergone enormous progress in the last decade due to the development of new techniques, associated with different technical advances (neurolocalization and improvements in ultrasound) as well as a better knowledge of its benefits within multimodal analgesic and anaesthetic protocols. The benefit of including these techniques has been evaluated in numerous studies and is based on the impossibility of the the nociceptive stimulus reaching to upper pathways (spinal and/or supraspinal) with the clear improvement in patient management during the surgical procedure and the also improved sensitization phenomena associated with the procedure. This is of great importance in the sick patient where the functional reserves are already diminished, as well as its capacity to respond to external aggressions.
